Upscalar AI Enhances ICEHOUSE's Iconic Satellite Music Video
September 6, 2023
On this day, thirty years ago, the world was introduced to ICEHOUSE's groundbreaking track, "Satellite." Released on the 6th of September 1993, the song took a bold step away from the band's renowned synth-pop sound and reflective of the taste changes occurring at the time. Today, Upscalar AI celebrates this momentous occasion by unveiling a significant enhancement of the song's original music video in collaboration with ICEHOUSE.

Enhancing the music video presented us with a challenge. The original filmstock for Satellite was unavailable, and the available digital footage wasnt in a great state. Our team was faced with degraded video plagued by excessive noise from its original capture, as well as time base code and colour space discrepancies.
Utilising our state-of-the-art Generative Adversarial Neural Network (GAN), not only were we able to amplify the resolution, giving the video a sharper, more vibrant look, but we also escalated the video's frame rate, generating nearly 2/3rds of the footage. Pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible, the video went from a standard 25 frames per second to a buttery smooth 60 frames per second, resulting in a viewing experience that feels even more real and immersive than when the footage was first released.
But that wasn't all. Recognising that audio quality is just as crucial for a wholesome experience, the original track was replaced with audio from the official remastered masters, ensuring that fans of ICEHOUSE receive the best auditory experience to match the enhanced visuals.

We invite fans old and new to revisit the magic of Satellite, now revitalised for the modern era.
